fleece blanketsA few years ago I was doing laundry more than once a week. It was a real nuisance that wasted my time and my money. I needed a way to cut back on growing laundry pile. I realized the majority of my basket was made up of pajamas and towels. I first started by wearing my pajama pants two nights in a row. It wasn’t like they were really getting dirty. I only wore them to bed after all. They helped a bit, but before the week was done, I already used up all my bath towels.

I noticed my roommates would use their towels two, sometimes even three times a week. I wasn’t sure if I could do that. My towels were cheap and I didn’t think they would dry by the next day. Sure enough, they didn’t. They barely dried me the first day. I soon learned about Blanket America. Besides selling fleece blankets and cotton sheet sets, they also had towels. In December 2011, Blanket America teamed up with Gap to continue their mission of donating blankets to those in need. If you don’t know by now, you need to start paying attention. Blanket America is 100% serious when they say they will donate a blanket for every single item purchased from their store. People assume the needy automatically want food or clothing, but what they ask for on a cold winter’s night is a blanket. And with your help, you can give them that blanket.

After selling a good amount of merchandise, Blanket America decides where they will donate the proceeds to. This time it was in Los Angeles, the same place where many of the blankets were originally sold. On this most recent donation, they were able to give back 1,000 blankets. They were very grateful to work with such a large and well-known company as Gap –who were all too eager to help out and give back to those in need in their own community.

A Birthday Blanket

blankets and throwsToday is my birthday. (Thank you for the virtual well wishes.) Since my birthday lands on a Monday, the worst day of the week, I obviously opted to hold all celebrations over this past weekend. Saturday night was devoted to my friends, a raucous night in the city of course. But last night was more peaceful, spent with my family. It was also an opportunity to receive tons of loot! Although most of the gifts were gift cards planted inside hilarious cards, the gift from my parents was a little more thought out.

They purchased a woven blanket. Not just any woven blanket though. It was from Blanket America. Besides being incredibly soft and comfy (exactly what I needed for my bed this winter), this blanket was not just a gift for me. The purchase also meant that a blanket was donated to someone in need. The other gifts just seemed frivolous and silly after I opened it. It just felt good knowing that I wasn’t the only one who had cause to celebrate that day. It may sound cheesy, but it was heart warming to know that someone else would benefit from such a simple birthday gift given to me. I thanked my parents for the wonderful gift and for being so generous to those in need.

Warm Towels on a Cold Day

woven blanketThe only time I ever feel warm on a cold winter day is when I’m wrapped up in my fleece blankets under another layer of sheets. I essentially encapsulate myself into a tight knit cocoon, ensuring no heat shall escape nor shall any cold draft enter. And when my alarm goes off and I know I have to step out of my warm bed, the feeling of dread sinks in. A similar occurrence happens after I step out of a nice hot shower. The feeling of cold air hitting my body is enough reason to just live in the hot shower. If only my fingers didn’t turn to prunes after 15 minutes.

One way to make the experience a little less detestable is to invest in warm and cozy bath towels. Wrapping yourself in thin towels is just as bad as not using any towels at all! Staying Slightly Neutral

cotton sheet setDeciding on a color scheme for the bedroom can often be a difficult task. Although the bedroom might not be the place you spend the most time, it is where you sleep. In feng shui, the bedroom is a very important room since it is a place of relaxation; it is where you refresh so you can start your day right. Color is just as important as the setup. When you walk into a dark or extremely bright room, it has an impact. It’s why interior designers don’t recommend painting an entire room red or black. Red might make you angry and anxious while all black is obviously depressing.

It’s not just about the walls though. You can have a bit more color on the walls with more neutral blankets, comforters, and cotton sheet set. Or you can do the exact opposite. Have a paler color on your walls and let the bedding be the bright pop of color you need. It actually might be a good idea to have the color come from the bedding. This way if you get sick of blue bedding, it’s easier to change the bedding than to repaint the walls. Don’t create an entire neutral space. That’s just plain boring. Instead, create a balance in the bedroom.
